WWE: Mick Foley's Greatest Hits & Misses - A Life in Wrestling Audience Reviews

CommentsXp Best movie ever!
Verity Robins Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.
Portia Hilton Blistering performances.
Janis One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
bh_tafe3 Mick Foley was a extraordinary talent. Overweight, not overly athletic, not overly gifted with technical wrestling skills or as a high flyer. But what he could do was fall off scaffoldings. take a legit punch to the nose, get hit by chairs, bleed torrents and cut amusing promos. Foley was "The" hard core legend, the ultimate brawler and wrestled a style that defined main event wrestling in the WWE from 1998-2002, and to many, behind The Rock and Steve Austin defined the "Attitude Era." On this DVD Foley selects some of his best and a couple of his worst matches that define his career and life in wrestling. His commentaries are engaging and at times insightful, but it's the matches that matter, and they are either of high quality or interesting.First up we're shown a brutal match between Foley as Cactus Jack and Big Van Vader where Foley gets a legit broken nose after a stiff blow to the face from Vader. This was awesome stuff. The next match is another fun brawl with Cactus teaming with Maxx Payne to take on the Nasty Boys who just love throwing stiff shots. THey go all over the stage and onto the ramp. You know you've seen a good entertaining match when you just don't care who won. This was fun.Next up we have Cactus in ECW taking on Sabu in a slightly disappointing match which is still a lot of fun. The same can't be said for a later match with Sandman in ECW where Sandy gets a legit concussion and is so out of it the match is almost unwatchable, but Foley's comments beforehand make it entertaining. The disc also contain a good match with Chris Candido in Smokey Mountain Wrestling and a fun match with Mikey Whipwreck, his last in ECW from 1996 where he receives a standing ovation from the ECW arena. Mick ranks that the greatest moment of his career. And of course there's a fun brawl with Foley teaming with Raven against two more hardcore legends, Terry Funk and Tommy Dreamer which is well worth a look. The extras on disc one include another very good match between Sting and Foley from 1992, with Foley doing the commentary and a rematch with Sabu from Hamburg in 1994 and a match with "Jack" Foley and Les Thornton taking on the great 1980s tag team, the British Bulldog and some great promos from his ECW and WCW days.Disc two starts with Foley talking about the invention of the Mankind character and goes straight into a stellar match with Shawn MIcheals from he In Your House: Mind Games PPV from late 1996, which he won by DQ. A fun brawl.Next up is another highlight for Foley as he introduced the Cactus Jack character to WWE audiences at Madison Square Garden and got one of the biggest roars ever heard in any arena for a match with Tripe H which was lot of fun to watch.Next up is a dream match for fans of hardcore wrestling with Foley taking on Terry Funk on RAW in 1998. They brawl around the arena, in an entertaining scrap.Foley now introduces the Dude Love character to us all and he has a blinder of a match with Steve Austin at Over the Edge 1998. One of the finest matches seen in the WWE during the Attitude era with a great backstory as well. The disc is almost worth buying for this match alone. And if that one doesn't do it for you the infamous Hell in a Cell match with Mankind from King of the Ring 1998 should. Not much to the match, just Foley getting off the cell, Foley getting thrown through the cell and Foley getting thrown onto thumbtacks. Then Undertaker wins. All those stunts and recovery time takes about 20 minutes. Still an amazing spectacle now.Next up is a match between the Rock and Foley from April 1999. A strange choice, followed by a Street Fight with Triple H from the 2000 Royal Rumble, one of the best and most brutal hardcore matches ever seen in the WWE.THis was re-released in 2006 with a bonus disc which included Foley's awesome match with Randy Orton from Backlash 2004 which IMO is the best and most brutal match ever seen in the WWE. But it has stiff competition from his match with Edge from Wrestlemania 22 which is also included, and then another outstanding hardcore match where Foley teams up with Edge against Funk and Dreamer at One Night Stand 2006 and ends with a slightly disappointing "I Quit" match with Ric Flair, which Foley blames himself for on the DVD. Foley and Joey Styles do commentary on all the matchers. If you find the Hardcore Edition get it.Great DVD about a great entertainer. A must for any Foley fan. Fantastic.
The_Dinosaur This is probably the best wrestling DVD I own and to Mick's credit he chose a good bunch of matches. Here are the reviews of some of the matches.Cactus Jack vs. Big Van Vader. -This is a excellent match. Mick calls it the most blatantly brutal of his career, and I would have to agree. If you watch and listen to it you will see (and hear) how brutal it actually is. Mick actually points out the bit where his nose is broken in the match. 8/10Cactus Jack + Maxx Panye vs. the Nasty boys -This is a good match, not a great match. It is at times a bit confusing to follow because it is a tag team street fight. 6/10Cactus Jack vs. Sabu -This is a long match that is not very fast paced at the start, but by the end of it you will be wanting more. 9/10Cactus Jack vs. Chris Candido - this is quite a good match, one that I enjoyed, but if I have one judgement it is that it is too short. 8/10Cactus Jack vs. the Sandman - This match is so bad at times that it is like a car accident and you can't help but look away. The DVD is called Mick Foley's greatest hits and misses. 6/10Cactus Jack + Raven vs. Terry Funk + Tommy Dreamer -Ok match but a bit repetitive and once again lacks good structure. 6/10Cactus Jack vs. Mickey Whipwreck -A very good match and one that should have been on 'the Rise and Fall of ECW' but was not included. 9.5/10Mankind vs. Shaun Micheals -A very fast paced, action packed match. One of Micks best matches. 9.5/10Cactus Jack vs. Hunter Hurst Helmsly -A very good street fight and rivals those of his done in ECW. 9/10Mick Foley vs. Terry Funk -A good match with a aging Terry Funk. It is made a whole lot better by the matches commentary. 8/10Dude Love vs. 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin -A excellent match and probably the best on the DVD. Steve Austin is a machine in this match which does good work in the ring as well as outside of it. I enjoyed this match because there is not a dull moment in it. 10/10Mankind vs. The Undertaker -This is the infamous Hell in the cell match where Mick is thrown of the top and through the cage. It is a short but great match and at times difficult to watch if you put yourself in the shoes of Mick. 10/10Mankind vs. the Rock -This is a good match. It is the match that Mick wins the title for the first time in. It has also been called the match that killed WCW because on WCW nitro the commentator said 'that match should put butts in seats' very sarcastically. That night 300 thousand or so changed channel from WCW to WWE to see this match. 8/10Cactus Jack vs. HHH - this is probably second or third best on this DVD and is extremely entertaining to watch and has a good fade out at the end of it which really touched me. 10/10There are also tons of extra features including matches with Sting, Sabu and the British Bulldogs. There is also some good skits and vignettes.

And any wrestler who calls him a "glorified stuntman" is a wrestler not worth watching at all!
normy132 Mick Foley had an incredible career, with plenty of heavy bumps and classic matches. This is a look at those great matches, picked by Mick Foley himself.Foley has included matches from every promotion he worked for, and in their chronological order. Mick gives us the inside on what happened on-screen before the matches and his comments on some of the craziest moments of his career. The DVD doesn't include anything on his retirement in 2000 or his commissioner-ship through 2000-01, which is a shame. Overall a strong DVD with not much room for improvement.
