Alicia I love this movie so much
Vashirdfel Simply A Masterpiece
Gutsycurene Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.
Logan By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
sweeneybarber Wow! How can the BBC get it so right sometimes and not others. Not this time. From Darkness is drawn out to 4 episodes when 2 would easily have been enough. So many lingering shots of entranced faces and Scottish Isles...... And the finish lets you down so much...........whoever was the adviser on police aspects is either not an ex police officer or is totally out of touch with reality. Plus, without giving the plot away, a penultimate scene of a hostages situation was so unnatural you were in anger before the stupid ending. Why do some dramas go out their way to make police look and act as they never would - don't waste your time as I did!
marinella-mermaid We started watching this mainly because of Anne-Marie Duff and Johnny Harris, and episode 1 was good enough so I stuck with it (but not my husband). That's 4 - or 3 to be fair - hours I'll never get back. Each episode kept pointing to a poor finale, but as I work in drama I really wanted it to be better than it turned out to be.Main problems were: Underdeveloped characters, except maybe for Hinds (Johnny Harris).Pointless plot diversion: Megan, Claire's stepdaughter, was she there just to be the diverting red herring at the end? The woman police chief, should get an award for most wooden acting since Pinocchio.Rushed conclusion in episode 4, totally unbelievable and clichéd characters like the original killer (why didn't he run her over??) and the vengeful victim. If the BBC want to emulate Scandinavian dramas they should import their scriptwriters and directors.
Paul Evans Three quarters of the way through this series, I feel I can provide a well balanced review based on what I've seen so far.The story in brief, bodies are uncovered at a building site, DCI John Hind is placed in charge of the case, he'd originally looked into the disappearance of the girls. His former colleague Claire Church has quit the force and moved the the Scottish Isles with her husband. Hind manages to convince Claire to return to Manchester to assist with the case. A murder occurs using the same M.O. as the discovered bodies, the hunt is on to find the killer. As it unfolds it turns out that Hind and Claire had a history. It is quite slow in parts, there have been more slow pauses and deliberate gazes then I have ever seen. The production values are a little disappointing, it feels quite clunky. The story is interesting, but it's been done better so many times, Waking the Dead, Messiah etc.I have to say I found Anne Marie Duff quite a strange choice for the part, she's an excellent actress, maybe too good for the part. Johnny Harris I have enjoyed more, he fits the role much better. It's improved as it's gone on, Part 3 was rather good. It will be interesting to see who was responsible for the murders.
coltscroft This is painfully slow and excruciating to watch. The director appears to have confused arty shots and moody silences with plot. The acting is pants, the characters are not engaging and the story is hackney tosh. Don't watch this if you have toenails to paint or a fish tank to watch. This is a vary very rare example of the BBC failing to deliver good TV. This is painfully slow and excruciating to watch.
