A Guy Thing Audience Reviews

Afouotos Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
Odelecol Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
InformationRap This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
Suman Roberson It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
Mihai Toma Paul, a normal man engaged with Karen, gets an unexpected hangover after his bachelor party and ends up in bed with a girl whom he doesn't remember. From that moment, he's going to encounter a series of difficulties which will make him rethink his relationship and his way of life. This movie, with its common and so many times used plot, although it had potential, manages to be a yawn-making and head-scratching machine. At some point tends to be serious and then the very next one becomes a parody. It has so many moments which make absolutely no sense in this movie, like Becky's psycho cop girlfriend who always comes into the picture just to spoil it without any reason. And the way the whole idea was treated...I really wasted time with this movie and I'm actually sorry for actors like Julia Stiles who end up in such "films".To be honest with you, if it wasn't for her and the fact that the movie managed to make me laugh a couple of times, we'd be talking about a much lower rating
jessegehrig Yes, ha ha. Movie sucks. I saw most of it to be honest so I don't know how it ends, I'm OK with that. The reason I stopped watching this movie is because I correctly believed that there was something else on TV that was better to watch. I do not remember what it was I watched after A Guy Thing, but I know it was better, I almost want to say I binged watched a bunch of episodes of How Its Made...Why movie suck? Movie suck cause writing bad, bad, the story wants to be too many things and is unable to incorporate the various elements successfully. Maybe its the director's fault? Maybe its the producer or the studio? Its a real who-done-it. This is not a fun movie, whatever it is we call the human spirit this movie wants nothing to do with it. Hold it close, let it work its insidious screws into you.
wes-connors After a Seattle bachelor party, boozing boxer-clad Jason Lee (as Paul Morse) wakes up in bed with bikini-clad blonde Julia Stiles (as Becky Jackon), who was hired as a dancer for the event. Expecting perky brunette fiancée Selma Blair (as Karen Cooper) to arrive at any moment, Mr. Lee quickly ushers Ms. Stiles out the door. Blair arrives before Lee locates Stiles' dirty underwear, which he hides in the toilet tank. You can expect those panties to pop up later...While preparing for his wedding, Lee learns Stiles is Ms. Blair's cousin. Lee and Stiles try to hide their possible "one night stand" from friends and family. Lee's brother Thomas Lennon (as Pete Morse) does well yearning for the bride-to-be, and Stiles' policeman boyfriend Lochlyn Munro (as Ray Donovan) is likewise convincing. Of the veterans, Jackie Burroughs is the most fun to watch. It's physically funny, with a silly ending. Most of the humor is toilet-based.***** A Guy Thing (1/17/03) Chris Koch ~ Jason Lee, Julia Stiles, Selma Blair, Thomas Lennon
Chrysanthepop Given the cast of actors like Jason Lee, Selma Blair and Julia Stiles, I had expected this to be a better rom-com than the usual sugar-coated trash that Hollywood churns out every year. Granted that Stiles has done her fair share of that kind of garbage but at least Lee and Blair have been more selective in their choices. However, 'A Guy Thing' is a big disappointment. Yes, there are a few funny sequences but the story and characterization is very messed up. As the tagline says, boy meets girl, falls in love and then boy meets girl's cousin, falls for her and oh, in the meantime, boy's brother has apparently always been in love with girl and girl loves him too, at least on a subconscious level. Sound familiar? Well why shouldn't it? 'A Guy Thing' relies on the tried and tested formula, a formula that, in my opinion has always failed. So what if boy met girl's cousin after marriage or what if boy meets another cousin and falls for her? Well, whatever. On the plus side, I liked that it doesn't overly focus on the locations (as most romcoms feel the need to highlight New York City). The performances are decent. Selma Blair looks stunning. That's all.
