Bomb in the High Street Audience Reviews

SpuffyWeb Sadly Over-hyped
Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
Doomtomylo a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.
malcolmgsw What made me wonder was that a quota quickie such as this had 2 directors.Anyway a gang manage to plant a fake bomb in the town and then dress up as a bomb disposal squad and arrive in the town.Where are the actual soldiers? They don't have the distinctive badge of the squad. This is a ruse to crack the safe in the local bank. There is a runaway couple hiding in the cleared town and they manage to raise the alarm. This is juvenile stuff which wouldn't be good enough for a CFF film.Any tension is rapidly dissipated in a deflating finale
GUENOT PHILIPPE I do love heist films - big or unknown ones - and I watched with much pleasure this very exciting little noir film from UK. I love the characters, except maybe the young folks, so predictable. But the robbers....So shame that it is so short. If you read the topic, don't confound with another film with some lines in common with this one. I speak of a British feature - which I don't remind the title - about a gang of robbers pulling a heist - and not an arm robbery - where they drill the bank vault through the next building basement, and where a WW2 unexploded bomb jeopardizes all their plans. The story is a bit different here: a WW2 bomb, a bank and a heist besides the bomb. That's all. Two different movies.Back to this one, the only thing I did not get is this:How the hell did the gangsters know in advance that there was a bomb to blow in the village? And if the superintendent asked for a bomb experts squad, why did the real experts did not show up, instead of the robbers?Unless the night watchman who "discovered" the bomb in the first place - right at the beginning of the film - was an accessory of the gang...Remember when he gives the superintendent a piece of paper with on it the phone number to call on an emergency...It would be a phony number. And then everything would be clear. The ending is rather too fats. What does happen to the robbers? We guess they are arrested...
avis_colin This rather obscure little film is about a team of bank robbers headed by Ronald Howard who do a bank job under the guise of army bomb disposal experts. They plant a German bomb on a building site which is situated opposite a bank. The night watchman discovers the bomb and calls in the police who evacuate the area. This allows the villains complete freedom of the area. However, a pair of courting runaways, Mike and Jackie who are sleeping rough in a partly built new house hinder the robbery and they are told if they don't make trouble, they can have some of the proceeds. I cannot understand why this film has never been released on either VHS or DVD as it has an original story and in my opinion should not be missed. My score 8/10
