Country Strong Audience Reviews

Diagonaldi Very well executed
Lawbolisted Powerful
Robert Joyner The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
Isbel A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
rockyleonhardt I like Gweneth generally speaking. She loves Nashville and is here often. This movie was poorly written, poorly acted, poorly sung. That guy that is supposed to be the up and coming singer is terrible. Out of all the great singers in Nashville, how did they ever pick this loser? The guitar player players just very simple chords, nothing special. That girl that becomes the love interest, is only a very mediocre singer. Tim McGraw looks so out of place in his regular street clothes. I guess they would have had to pay him more to show up in his country attire. Don't know if Gweneth sang her own songs, but if she did she didn't do as good as Sissy Specek in Coal Miners Daughter
chubbydave A guy wearing a cowboy hat, boots, jeans, and flannel shirt parks his piece of junk pick-up truck and carries his acoustic guitar as he walks into a bar on a Saturday night. He doesn't play the guitar particularly well or sing particularly well, but the crowd (especially the women) is mesmerized by his country-style machismo. If anyone reads this, they're probably laughing by now, but this is a scene in the movie, and as far as I can tell they expect you to take it seriously.Note: I've been to Texas. I've visited over half a dozen cities and town including Lubbock, Amarillo, Houston, Dallas and San Antonio. I've even been to Lukenbach. The first time I visited Texas I wore some cowboy boots. I felt like an idiot. No one was wearing cowboy boots or cowboy hats. I think this mythical place where people wear flannel shirts, boots and hats only exists in some movie producers' mindsBut there's more. There's the has-been fading star struggling with addiction as she struggles to hold on to her career. There's the husband/manager who is more concerned with her career than her health. Then there's the young wannabe starlet trying to make it in the business. And for some reason, I can't figure it out, these people are adored by the multitudes of fans. If this were a comedy, I'd get it. But I think it's supposed to be taken seriously. The one highlight is Leighton Meester who plays the young wannabe. She's a very versatile actress, and her performance in this movie explains why she's in such high demand as an actress both on television and on the big screen.
markarobertson123 This film is for anyone: a music lover, someone who loves a good cry at a movie, anyone! The story is great and gives an insight into a music stars life and when it goes wrong - it really does go wrong! Paltrow is excellent and portrays her character to the very best of her ability. Through out the whole film it catches the audience's attention and keeps it until the very last minute of the film. Hedlund's performance as Beau is delightful as he plays the stereotypical 'country boy' but changes through out the movie for the best. The songs in the film will make you keep wanting to rewind the DVD and play it over and over again. This film will not be forgotten in your DVD collection and will always put you in a song and dance mood! A MUST SEE!! 10/10
edwagreen With its Marilyn Monroe like ending, "Country Strong" is rather a benign affair with Gwyneth Paltrow in the lead role, attempting a comeback after a disastrous tour in Dallas.Even with her faithful manager-husband,Paltrow is unsteady and can't seem to get it all together until a visit to a clinic with a leukemia stricken youngster appeared to set her straight. After giving a great performance at Dallas, where she had bombed previously,Paltrow seemed to get it right only to fall victim to the pills again. Did she take too many by accident or was it a suicide attempt? The film has that deep southern charm where the music emanates from. As is the case with films dealing with this kind of music, it is rather slow moving. The young woman trying to make a name for herself and the rising male rock star both represent hope for the industry, but not for the film.
