Just a Little Harmless Sex Audience Reviews

Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Dirtylogy It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
Aubrey Hackett While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
Fleur Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
JohnHowardReid This so-called "sex comedy" has very little to recommend it. A one- joke affair that seems to take forever to get to its well- telegraphed "climax", this justly titled "Just a Little Harmless Sex" was obviously directed by someone who realized that the script was so boring that the only chance the producer had of retrieving some of his money was a quick sale to TV. The only trouble with this theory is that Rick Rosenthal was both producer and director, so why he chose to direct EVERY SINGLE CAMERA SET-UP in a boringly relentless TV style, abounding with tight close-ups and two-shots (plus an occasional three for a bit of variety) is a real mystery. Admittedly, the players do make a gallant effort to keep the movie moving, but they are hemmed in by a plot that telegraphs its next scene "surprises" well ahead of the game. How the movie managed to amass such good reviews amazes me. Normally, reviewers would tear apart such a poorly written and over- strenuously acted show that moves with the pace of a snail from one boring, well-telegraphed scene to the next. Admittedly, the players put a lot of effort into their roles, but that's just the problem. Successful acting must SEEM effortless!
skippityroo I liked this movie shown in 2007 on free to air TV here and viewed by myself while googling and jpeg stealing. It did the trick for me, i thought it was a 7 I got a couple of really good laughs and the story was consistent.Good characters. Possibly if you try to take this movie too seriously then you just don't get it. Could this movie become a black comedy classic in years to come? I was intrigued by the chefs surprise and the whole music thing was real good ...I thought the soundtrack was fine, in fact i wanted all of the main characters to be my friends, you know, i'd be hangin out with em and stuff and that the whole movie was one big tongue in cheek giggle for 90mins or so.Some of those Jinks club scenes were almost tiltshift and i think there's maybe a touch of Friends in there also the way they're all sharing their secrets as they're getting drunker. I am certainly glad i happened to see it. As for there being a few that didn't like it i can understand that. Tell me the truth you guys, you didn't like Hudson Hawk either right?
tedg Spoilers herein. We all want to be teenagers and some films are built to pander to that drive. The teenage condition is one in which all things are subservient to sex, but sex isn't something you actually do. It isn't something that is a component of a relationship but something that defines it (and life). It is how you define yourself. Friends exist to talk about things, and since all things ultimately are part of that prime mover, the topic is always sex in some form. How to engineer a movie for this? Talk talk talk about sex -- don't do it. (Have a strip tease with no stripping.) Have some minidramas on the order of `going steady' and `breaking' up, but cast it among grown-ups. That's because the target audience wants to be kids but doesn't see itself as kids. Have lots of `raw' talk. Have some minor misunderstandings and difficulties that only become large because they have been talked about with friends. Have opportunistic crushes.Denote the fact that we are generation-hopping by having the `Mom' be hot and `in play.' Don't have any redheads because redheads are serious stuff (in movies).Ted's Evaluation -- 1 of 4: You can find something better to do with this part of your life.
plumberguy If you would like to see a very bad episode of Melrose Place done by some very poor actors trying to be comedic...then rent this flick. This is one of the worst movies I have EVER seen. I have never felt the compulsion to enter a comment here before but the producers of this movie duped me and I want revenge. The box for this movie has snippets of reviews praising this garbage.... don't be fooled. The 'plot' is anorexic. The 'acting' is frightening. I actually felt sorry for the performers, knowing that at one point they had to sit through a screening of their work. What a waste of time and money by me and the makers of this flotsam. Boo.
