Thunderbirds Audience Reviews

ThedevilChoose When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
Gutsycurene Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.
Invaderbank The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
TheVAFan I'm quite possibly a huge fan of Gerry Anderson's stuff. Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlett, Stingray, even his lesser known shows (well except The Secret Service, I thought that was naff but still), you name it, I enjoy it.So how dare they even make a film about the Thunderbirds.... even though they're hardly in the chuffing film to begin with! Instead all we get are some silly and quite frankly stupid shenanigans involving a sadly annoying Alan Tracy running around Tracy Island trying to save the Tracy family from an incredibly over-acting Ben Kingsley as The Hood.Too bad then, that he gets trapped by a tidal wave of terrible dialogue, unfunny moments that would make even the Spy Kids cringe with envy and most importantly a complete lack of respect to the original source material.Even Hans Zimmer's score is nowhere near the excellence of Barry Gray. When even your creator calls it the biggest pile of crap he's ever watched you know your film is completely doomed...
barjo-915-203229 I think one of the big problems with this movie was that it appeared to be directed at children, while still aimed at having some content of interest to Adults. In the end, it was liked by neither. That said, some kids do like it, and my daughter has watched it repeatedly. The traditional storyline is warped and twisted to put the three main heroes of the movie as kids. This really does not exactly make it a faithful homage to the Thunderbirds.... bit more a rather lame kids adventure story. The standout characters are Lady Penelope and Parker. Richard Curtis wrote their lines, and they are faithful renditions of the originals. Clearly.... he should have written the whole movie. Not a great movie, and probably wiped out the somewhat talented Jonathan Frakes career as a director (more the fault of the script than his direction).
studioAT No, this film isn't great. There are too many changes from the original series to please fans and it is all a little bit too flash for it's own good BUT I still believe 10 years on from it's release this film remains good family entertainment. It's fast paced, it's exciting for kids (who were very much the target audience) and is a lot better than some of the dross family films we have to put up with.Yes,it would have been nice to see a bit more of the Tracey Brothers (telling which one is which is quite difficult) and making Alan younger and the star of the film isn't to everyone's taste but Sophia Miles as Lady Penelope more than makes up for it. Perhaps the only spot on bit of casting in the film. It's very much a family film but if you can get past the flaws (and it's taken me 10 years to be able to) I think you'll find a lot to like about this film.
steve-laky I just picked up this move in the $5 bin and went home and watched it with my 10 year old daughter. We both enjoyed the film and it certainly was worth $5. I can see why a Thunderbird aficionado would pan the movie, but if you're not familiar with the predefined Thunderbird universe it's a fun movie. I remember watching the Thunderbirds as a kid but I was too young to remember all the characters so I just watched this movie like seeing the T-birds for the first time. The special effects and technology in the film are impressive. My daughter has never seen the puppet version of the Thunderbirds so this was her first exposure - she loved it. The plot and characters are appropriate for a younger audience. All in all, it was fund and we like it.
