henrywillis Eight Legged freaks is a good film because it knows what it is and does not take itself or the subject way too seriously. Giant spiders invade, humans evade- this is the premise and the execution is deft, if not engaging. This is a classic example of a good B movie, made on a decent B movie budget where the monsters are perfect and the acting not too much further from self deprecation. David Arquette is perfect as the lead and the film also features a young scarlet johannsen. All in all this is a fantastic B movie.
ButterJuggets666 It's been a while since I've seen this movie I'll admit it. But I have fond memories of watching this when I was a child. I actually wish they would make funny films like this. I suppose they do on Syfy and channels like that, though this had much better quality in comparison to something from T.V. I can remember certain scenes pretty well, one of the best was when the female spider stabbed someone with a poker and began feasting on their blood while the webbed up person was still squirming. It was so appallingly creepy and yet extremely effective in the quality of the effects. It did well in generating emotional response. I loved how they ended up in a mall and started killing all the spiders too. I definitely need to check this film out again soon. Overall if your looking for Citizen Kane, this isn't it, but if your looking for a lot of fun with creepy special effects and fun characters who act over the top against giant arachnids. This is definitely a must watch. I would also say this film has that early 2000's quality as it was made in 2002. I don't know but films are fun to watch to get an idea of the time they were done in, which to me at least, is enjoyable as you think about what that time was like.8 out of 10 and only because the two missing stars add to the quality of this being a fun film that should wear any imperfections with pride. One more thing, forgot that ScarJo was in this, this should absolutely be considered one of her best films ever!!! ;)
Paul Magne Haakonsen Despite the really bizarre and misplaced attempt at humor that director Ellory Elkayem opted for "Eight Legged Freaks", then this 2002 movie is still worth watching if you enjoy a monstrous creature feature. The story, in all its simplicity, is about a small town that become the hunting grounds for huge, aggressive spiders. While this movie doesn't instill any academy award winning moments, then people still managed to do good jobs with their given roles and characters. Most memorable was Doug E. Doug as the eccentric Harlan Griffith. The spiders in "Eight Legged Freaks" were actually quite nicely animated and did look like real arachnids. Well, aside from the sounds they made at times, which were epic fails at bringing comedy into the movie. It was a shame, because this actually dragged the movie down into a mediocre experience.Yes, there are far better spider movies available, but I do think that if you enjoy such movies then "Eight Legged Freaks" is still worth sitting down to watch, just tune out the ridiculous sounds that were added to the spiders in many scenes.
grantss Common-or-garden creature-horror movie. Only worth watching because it includes a pre-fame Scarlett Johansson. Not original - reminds me a lot of Tremors (which itself wasn't that original). Pretty much standard creature-horror plot, action and CGI.Even the CGI, which you would think would be the best feature, seems a bit crude. As mentioned, worth watching because it includes Scarlett Johansson before she was famous. Her next movie was Lost in Translation...Kari Wuhrer is also eminently watchable. David Arquette proves yet again that his siblings got the acting genes, while his talents clearly must lie elsewhere.
