I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

Alec Guinness is one of my favourite actors. But I am still oblivious to some of his best works. Wanting to watch one of his movies on Youtube, I came across this. Not knowing anything about this, I was surprised at everything that came at me. I laughed, cried, I loved everything about this. As a made-for-TV British movie, a truly delightful and funny movie was not at all what I expected. I thought that this was going to be a serious drama with Guinness giving a strong portrayal I know and love. Instead, there's little Ricky Schroeder who finds out he is the heir of an Earl (played by Alec Guinness), who is his grandfather in England. Schroeder is our main character, a ten-year-old (roughly) blond-haired, cute kid who brightens up everybody's day. He was just what I needed to see. When he gets to England, his cuteness, kindness and honesty does not fit with everybody else. At first the Earl is annoyed, but he, along with everybody else wins the affection of of his grandson. Schroeder is so real and talented, unlike every young actor in the world today. And Guinness does give a powerful performance I was seeking. The chemistry of him starting all grouchy then becoming lovable was very nice to see. He also packed in lots of emotion into his role, which made it that much better. This is so pleasant and delightful. It made me so happy!

I first saw this movie many years ago and thought it was very heart warming. Although a lot of folks prefer the old Freddie Bartholomew version, I have grown very fond of this version. It has a wonderful cast and the story is told beautifully. Some folks may call it kinda' sappy...but I just LOVE this movie! It has become a Christmas tradition, in my home! Just a sweet, old fashioned, feel good movie and Ricky Schroder was SO cute! I had the VHS tape, that we would watch a few times, during the holidays. The tape finally wore out and I haven't found it on DVD. I am so glad to have found it online, so we can continue to enjoy it and make our holiday programming complete!

This fantastic TV Movie made in 1979-80 still holds its place as the Best TV Movie ever made. The production values are fabulous, the cinematography awesome, the music score perfect, the casting magnificent, the pacing on track and the story emotional and very involving. Initially I video taped it, cutting out commercials, and that print was very imperfect. Years later I bought the VHS video version and the picture quality was quite poor with dirt specks and impurities and a very faded, sepia toned print. This film should be on the list for film preservation and remastering. It is a classic and I agree with those of you who say it is the best version to date, as I've seen the others and they pale in comparison. The DVD on Blu-Ray or regular would sell like hotcakes if it were properly marketed and there's a huge whole new audience out there who'd absolutely love it! There is a Website for TV Series Wanted on DVD, but sadly, no such forum for Movies Wanted on DVD. I have a List on my Website at: King Spud's Movie & TV Pages of many great films not yet released on DVD. Someone has been peeking at it as some very obscure films I listed have been produced on DVD. I just wish I could get All of those who own the rights to check out my List. Til then we can hope for the DVD or Hallmark Channel and other cable networks to run it again.

Without a doubt the best of the Fauntleroy pictures. Gives a feeling of the mothers role and his generosity. At the end w/o a doubt grabs the viewers attention. Although earlier versions were also good this one was meant for a Christmas Movie and your heart will go out to The Mother and son. From the time he begun his journey from NYC and buying gifts for his friends. To his love for his mom and understanding how his grandfather needs him. lord Fauntleroy shows us how he truly is a leader. He gets people to love his grandfather and shows his love to the people though his understanding of their plight. His Mother is shown in the movie as truly a great lady. This version goes into detail on how she cares for the people. In the earlier releases we are or can only assume she is caring for the people. In this one we can truly see how concerned she is by her awareness of the conditions around there. She not only gives care but also gives money and goods to help the needy. Lord Fauntleroy's greatest show of caring is not by his showing of love to his grandfather but more importantly by his feelings. The seen where he gives the crippled boy a ride on his new pony has to be a classic and truly shows what a great man he will be
