Looker Audience Reviews

AniInterview Sorry, this movie sucks
Stevecorp Don't listen to the negative reviews
Humaira Grant It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
Jonah Abbott There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
mm-39 Michael Crichton movies usually have the same themes, new technology, such technology causes problems when misused by people. Looker's story is about the quest for beauty. How surgery and computer imagery can create the quest for for beauty. How commercial media creates a unrealistic standards for society. The movie's storyline becomes a made for t v murder mystery. What does not work for Looker is the 1981 view of high technology looks cheesy for 2013. The effects are laughable for today! Looker's has eye candy, and slick 1980's feel which reflects the times well. The movie reminds me of the bad production of H B O use to make before H B O made great series like Band of Brothers. Looker reminds me of the 1980's cheesy series The Hitcher. I give Looker a four out of ten.
Aaron1375 I enjoyed this movie a lot as a kid as I enjoyed the flash guns and the other nifty computer stuff. This movie also has a bit of nudity in it, funny considering this movie was rated pg. It even has a couple of good deaths in it too. Just not the kind of stuff you would find in a movie these days unless it were just showing a male butt on screen. Here you get brief images of models and it is quite nice to look at. The plot has a plastic surgeon's patients dying off. What is strange is that none of these women seem to need any surgery to begin with. One particular girl kind of gets close to the doctor and through a series of events they uncover strange going ons. This movie is very entertaining as it has it all it seems. Good action here and there, some mystery, and some nice imagery. You also have a cool flash gun that stuns a person for a good while when used. It also has its rather funny scenes as a couple of those deaths that happen when they are filming those bad commercials are just great. The cast is rather good too, as Albert Finney may not be an action star, but he does really good here. James Coburn is also very good and they have a nice assortment of attractive girls too. They just do not make them like this anymore unfortunately.
moonspinner55 A plastic surgeon in Los Angeles investigates after some of his most beautiful clients--all fashion models--turn up dead. '80's thriller looks dated now, however it has a terrific set-up and proves to be absorbing and exciting for about a third of its length, later resorting to assembly-line theatrics. Michael Crichton, who wrote and directed, certainly isn't enigmatic (he's a filmmaker who always cuts right to the chase), yet in hindsight his script makes very little sense. The cast is good, particularly Susan Dey as Albert Finney's sassy sidekick, but the characters themselves are awfully one-dimensional. Strictly as a time-filler, not bad. **1/2 from ****
chahn-1 "Looker is ultimately not worth a look" DECIDE FOR YOURSELFThis is a great film. I did not give it a higher score only because I reserve 7+ scores for films that are also important, which this film is not. (Case in point "True Lies")This being said, it is an extremely enjoyable film to watch.Michael Crichton often chose his stories to examine actual concerns of the time, as he did in "Terminal Man", "Coma", and even in "Jurassic Park" (the issue of Genetic Research). In this film the concern involved the increasing affect that computers and advertising are having on us.Albert Finney was in several "workmanlike" films during this period....films that were consistently enjoyable, with another example being "Wolfen". It is great news that this is finally being re-released on DVD!...now where is "Serial"?! ...or Americathon?! ...or Peter Proud?!
