The Genius Club Audience Reviews

Pluskylang Great Film overall
TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
Kien Navarro Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Java_Joe There's an easy way to tell the skilled from the fakers and that's to ask them to do that one thing they're good at. Judging from this movie alone I can safely conclude two things. The first is Tim Chey can't direct or write a movie for that matter. And secondly is, there were no geniuses consulted for this. As somebody with an IQ in the genius range I can tell you that geniuses don't talk the way these idiots do. This is how screenwriters think geniuses talk. It's the way that stupid people think smart people talk. It's about using large or impressive sounding words. It's about figuring out answers to seemingly impossible questions. It's how a group of individuals couldn't think their way out of a wet paper bag. It's sure to impress people who are, sorry to use the term, stupid. It's sure to impress people who are, sorry to use another term, gullible. And I'm sure it's going to impress anybody that's of the same flavor of Christianity that the writer director is because that is what this movie is all about. It's about God. Tim Chey, as I've found out, is a Christian filmmaker. Now I have no problem with filmmakers that are Christian or even filmmakers that make Christian movies. But Tim doesn't make good movies. He's hit on the idea that all he has to do it play to his audience and he'll never have to worry about making money again. They will see his movie. They will praise it and they will ignore all the problems in favor of a message that appeals to them. The acting ranges from decent to poor but to the people this movie was made for they will admit that the acting was superb. We saw the same movie but without the Jesus colored glasses, I sure didn't see it the way they did.The camera-work ranges from okay to high school. But again, if you're a fan of Jesus, it's nothing short of the best camera-work ever. The direction, the editing the overall feel all fall into the same trap and it's the same result. If you're a born again Christian and care more for the message and not the movie you will like this movie. If you're anything other than that, you will hate it.
russell-patrick39 Ah, Genius Club. I still love this film... I could talk about the top-notch dialogue of the time and the inclusion of Tom Sizemore and Jack Scalia, who performed their roles incredibly well...I guess I just did...but I think there's something else about this film that needs mentioning.Genius Club is an incredibly uplifting film. In a day when a lot of movies are chilling visions of the world around us, we need something to show us hope. Genius Club paints a beautiful picture of kindness, friendship, love, and sacrifice that never fails to inspire me. I am not a man given to displays of emotion, really...but the film makes me laugh and cry throughout everything. And the soundtrack certainly helps. It is a textbook example of the proper use of a soundtrack to emphasize the plot and emotion. The beautiful "I Will Lift up" remains one of my absolute favorite songs. I can never listen to the soundtrack without seeing the movie happening again before my eyes.
melissa_bell This film was ignored by critics when it was first released, and to this day, I have absolutely no idea why.One critic from LA Weekly apparently got the message and knew it was a great movie.Perhaps its because it discussed God too much. This is the most important question to mankind, don't you think? I'm not going to go too much into the story as many others have, but the performance of Stephen Baldwin was fantastic. Never knew he could act like this - not sure why his performance wasn't singled out, which just further goes to show the naivety of the critics.Genius Club is worthy of your time, and I am not surprised that people are finally discovering it and realising that its not the failure that critics would have you believe.
jwalker-310-517429 It's funny that I see this movie the way I do, perhaps I'm more perceptive to little dramatic, human touches, but I saw this movie and was satisfied with it. In fact, I fell in love with it. This movie is chilling, very spooky, with a few moments that will make you jump, but it's a movie that works itself up, and by the end of the movie you feel scared, and like someone has zapped you a few times, chilly from inside out, but fulfilled.Tom Sizemore was amazing....People have been comparing this to "Sixth Sense" in intelligence. Though the movie may share similarities, this stands on it's own. It's content is not trying to send a message, except for a universal theme that you want to grasp onto. There is historical and religious content, purely in context for the twists and turns and nuances to make this film so complete in every aspect. Everything works so well. This movie takes pride in each scene, and each is set up so that you get the most of it. Everything relates to everything, you are given clues the entire movie, but it's set up so masterfully the ending is the surprise you've been waiting for. What are the 3 words?
