Thick as Thieves Audience Reviews

Spidersecu Don't Believe the Hype
Casey Duggan It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
Zlatica One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
Janis One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
Michael Ledo This is one of those crime thrillers that screams, "See how clever I am." You know from the mild beginning twists to expect more plot twists. The game I played was "How many twists can you identify?"Famous art thief Ripley (Morgan Freeman) recruits jewel thief Gabriel Martin (Antonio Banderas) to help him pull an impossible heist. Gabriel falls for Alexandra (Radha Mitchell) a friend of Ripley's. Meanwhile Lt. Weber (Robert Forster) is investigating Ripley, knowing he is going to rob a rich Russian living in NYC.The film moved quickly and kept me entertained. I enjoyed the acting and the dialogue with its innuendos. It is light enough of a crime thriller for the ladies to enjoy. The characters remind you, "Don't assume anything."Parental Guide: Brief F-bombs, sex, and nudity, but not excessive. Each in itself might constitute a PG-13 rating but collectively they would get an "R." Was that Banderas' naked butt in that love scene or a body double? I am guessing a double.
calicocutlass *Spoilers*I have seen more disappointing films. But only a few. It's sad to see an actor with as great a reputation and back catalogue as Freeman (minus "Wanted"!) be so let down by the script and the rest of the cast. Clearly Freeman's in it for the cash as others have suggested, but whilst this dilutes the art of cinema, let's not kid ourselves into thinking that we wouldn't do exactly the same if a few months putting up with the frankly ridiculous Banderas would land us another few million in the bank. Banderas is, it's been said, dire. At 49 (at the time of release) he is far too long in the tooth to be playing the young buck and far too fatherly to be the romantic interest. The 'romance' between his character and Freeman's mostly entertaining goddaughter feels sledge- hammered in as an afterthought, and the less said about the distinctly awkward and far too fleshy sex scene (not as bad as "The Thomas Crown Affair") the better. The wannabe-Usual-Suspects 'twisty' plot, whilst surprising, is just too clichéd for words. The worst thing is that by the time it comes to the twist you've already ripped out enough of your hair to no longer care if Freeman were to suddenly pull of a mask and reveal himself to be the goddaughter in disguise. I was mildly surprised that Banderas' declaration of "I'm a cop" was not met with "So am I" from Freeman...The 'heist' is laughable in its simplicity, and the fact that the so apparently wonderful vault can be breached with a simple wire tap, a cake, a piece of plastic food wrap and a few minutes of trial and error actually feels quite insulting - not to mention Freeman's ever- present magic iPhone! The policemen leave a lot to be desired, particularly the woefully overblown "Feds", as do the sketchy melange of Eastern European accents masquerading as an apparently believable crime cartel. The one saving grace is that Freeman's voice is at least a joy to listen to - even if the entire script seems to be cobbled together by lines which were rejected from the script of a bottom shelf Van Damme rip-off.It could have been worse, but only by being longer - and at least it is honest from the outset that its a formulaic heist thriller.
Supreme Creature Like a B movie with most absurd scenario. In this movie was a lot of scenes not connected to each other. Written by different persons or children. Ex. non movie related old people sex scenes, old man hackers, stupid guards, impenetrable vault you can get in less than 20 min., absurd get in method, even absurder get out method. Bad Russian language even for sides. Freeman twisted plan was actually really stupid reminded me situation where you throw a bomb on yourself and then try to survive. All thru movie a was hoping it would be over soon. I'm disappointed Banderas and Freeman agreed to participate in this movie. Have some dignity men.
yuvaliat We went to the movies without knowing which movie we want to see, we chose that one because of Morgan Freeman. Unfortunately the plot was not so good; it was a little too predictable. It seems like someone had some time between other movies and said: "why don't we make something in the meantime". The result was a movie that was not very interesting, we were disappointed. It seems like things were happening too fast, not giving a chance to connect to the plot or characters. The acting can also be better, especially Antonio Banderas. I think that "The Italian Job", or even better: "The Bank Job" for example, were much better movies. Behind us in the theater we did hear some people saying they enjoyed it.
