Tooth and Nail Audience Reviews

VividSimon Simply Perfect
Nayan Gough A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
Jakoba True to its essence, the characters remain on the same line and manage to entertain the viewer, each highlighting their own distinctive qualities or touches.
Paul Magne Haakonsen I have to start out by saying that given the synopsis of "Tooth and Nail" then I had initially expected a bit more from this movie, but it turned out to be a really boring movie and a major disappointment. The audience is supposed to buy into this being a post apocalyptic world. Right. Except that it didn't come off as being post apocalyptic in one bit. And the reason for the downfall of man and this apocalypse; because we ran out of fuel. Seriously? Ran out of fuel? The storyline is really slow, dull and dimwitted, and it was fast becoming a struggling battle to keep attention to the screen, especially because nothing much of any importance or interest took place on the screen. As for the acting, well people were doing adequate jobs with their given roles and characters. But not even Vinnie Jones could manage to salvage this sinking ship. And believe me, the ship was sinking fast. The one thing that the movie had working for it was the camera-work, which was actually quite good. And also the production value seemed to be adequate. But these factors could do nothing to lift up the rest of this abysmal movie experience.I managed to make it into 53 minutes into the movie before I gave up out of sheer boredom, and actually having dozed off once or twice. And I have no plans to put it on again to finish it, because there just is nothing alluring to make me watch the rest of the movie."Tooth and Nail" scores a meager 2 out of 10 stars.
drpakmanrains This umpteenth apocalyptic vision is incredibly bad. The script is devoid of any intelligent conversation, sounding more like the early karate movies of the late 1960's, and written by schoolboys whose idea of a good line is "Okay, you asked for it". A group of nondescript survivors spend much of the film bickering about what to do next, or who will be the next leader, as one by one they are picked off and eaten by a bunch of Viking looking refugees from one of the professional wrestling organizations. Like other reviewers have said, the sets are dull and there is little logic in what is happening because the oil has run out. Spoiler: When the girl the "good" guys rescue later reveals her true colors, this sets up the only interesting twist in this boring plodding movie with routine effects and no real suspense. Even though the film is in monosyllabic easily heard English, my suggestion is to put on the English subtitles and speed the film up a notch, thereby wasting only about 35 minutes of your life instead of 95. In "The Sound Of Music", the scene near the end in the compound was scarier than anything in this banal movie.
Woodyanders The time: the immediate near future. Society has fallen apart as the direct result of a sudden and unexpected gas shortage. A ragtag group of survivors led by the wise and kindly Professor Darwin (an excellent performance by Robert Carradine) seek refuge in an empty and abandoned hospital. Said group find themselves in considerable peril when a deadly band of savage nocturnal cannibals called Rovers attack the place on a nightly basis and pick them off one at a time. Writer/director Mark Young depicts a plausibly bleak and brutal vision of the future that might be right around the corner. Moreover, Young relates the absorbing story at a steady pace, builds a strong sense of dread and plenty of nerve-wracking tension (the Rovers' attacks on the survivors are quite vicious and horrifying), maintains a properly bleak and desolate tone throughout, and further spices things up with a few nice lashings of gore (gruesome highlights include a bloody throat slicing, a meat cleaver in the head, and an especially nasty acid facial). Better still, there's no silly obtrusive humor to detract from the severity of the harsh survival-of-the-fittest premise. In fact, the plot makes a potent and provocative central point about the fine line between civilized beings and wild barbarians. The sterling acting from a sturdy cast helps matters a whole lot: Rachel Miner as the spunky, resourceful Neon, Rider Strong as the mean, selfish Ford, Nicole DuPort as the humane and sensible, yet tough and resilient Dakota, Michael Kelly as the surly, malcontent Viper, Alexandra Barreto as Ford's timid girlfriend Torino, Emily Catherine Young as the mute, fragile Nova, Michael Madsen as the calmly malevolent Jackal, and Vinnie Jones as the feral Mongrel. Gregg Easterbrook's shadowy, prowling cinematography makes the most out of the dark and claustrophobic setting. Elia Cmiral's shivery, rattling, hard-rocking score likewise hits the bull's eye. A solid and satisfying movie.
Scarecrow-88 A small community of young adults(..and a mute kid with roller skates)whose leader is a professor(Robert Carradine), living within the confines of a massive hospital in a major city after civilization has fallen apart due to the total absence of gas-fuel, fall prey to an ominous group of barbaric cannibals who collect a victim a night for their feast, led by the sound of a horn. This all starts when three from the group find a fallen young woman, Neon(Rachel Miner, of the previous year's "8 films to die for" feature, PENNY DREADFUL)who claims that the cannibals are called Rovers and slaughtered her whole family. Soon, the group fall one by one to these madmen, as their leader is the first to die, leaving them to fend for themselves with little hope of survival. Through this horrifying ordeal, one must strengthen the others as a leader or else they all perish.Actually, for a good portion of the film, it's quite intense and suspenseful because there seems like such little hope for these kids, without a head once he's removed(..the kind of leader who was quite smart with goal of starting over, competent in his abilities, whose weakness was trust which leaves him vulnerable)against such amoral brutes with a nasty visage and even nastier weaponry..they resemble extras from the second Mad Max film, THE ROAD WARRIOR. Vinnie Jones is a memorable heavy, with his evil smile, bulging eyes & whistling scythe as he spins it around ready for blood shed. Michael Madsen, who at first appears to be the leader of this group, has a minor role as the cannibal "Jackal" who whistles towards his quarry before using a two-sided ax to do his damage. Rider Strong(..who also appears in 2007's "8 films to die for" entry BORDERLAND)has a strong role as the aggressive Ford, the kind of character who thinks mostly of saving his own skin. He voices his opinion loudly often antagonizing instead of helping to solve their terrible situation. Michael Kelly(..as Viper, who leaves the group, tired of being bossed around by Carradine's professor. and is an awfully good shot with a crossbow), who many might know from the DAWN OF THE DEAD remake as the irritating mall security guard whose attitude towards the survivors was quite unkind, has a heroic role towards the end as the kind of tough character who everyone else quietly respected, despite his rather negative reactions to what the community was trying to accomplish. I'm not sure why Carradine(..who most identify from REVENGE OF THE NERDS)isn't used in horror more. I think he's a welcome presence, and I sure hated seeing him exit this so early. The one thing this film direly needed was an adult presence. The film has some ferocious attacks on the kids, which are slickly handled using the darkness of night(..and a camera which moves the right way to avoid seeing the initial stabs into flesh), to avoid real graphic displays of carnage. I think the best thing going for the film is the cold, dank darkness of the hospital setting, even creepier at night. The post-apocalyptic premise is touched on here and there(..mostly through dialogue)but the overall theme comes straight from HILLS HAVE EYES.But, I found the whole "wolf in sheep's clothing" twist absolutely ridiculous, and once we find out who is guiding this cannibal group, I couldn't take the film seriously anymore. And, Nicole DuPort's character Dakota, a soft-spoken, rather weak member of the group who was sleeping with the professor, putting her complete faith and life in his future plans, metamorphosing into a bloodthirsty savage with warrior paint, nearly had me laughing my ass off. And, to be honest, this whole method of executing the victims one at a time, using this specific time at night to hunt, had my eyes rolling. If you want to eat people, just f'n do it.
