Rena Smith I like this movie. Admittedly, there are no great surprises and if you've read the books you'll pretty much know what happens, but otherwise, people would be outraged that creative license was taken.I won't got into the details of the plot. Some Reviewer's wrote that's it's impossible to like this movie if you're a fan of the books. And while I accept that this is their view, I can't say that I agree. The plot in the movie generally follows the book, with a few deviations, but None of them dramatic. Some Reviewer's have complained that Big Blue was 70s and not 50s and while this is true, I can't say that it really mattered to me. It was a total boat, that's the main thing.For the most part, the casting is good. I was skeptical about the main cast, especially when I saw stills of the movie. I thought Heigl was too pretty to be Stephanie and the lead men on the other hand were not handsome enough. But that turned out to be unfounded, once I was watching the movie, they seemed perfect. Some have complained that Ranger smiles too much, but when you read the book and have time to develop the character, that's fine. If you just have a few Scenes in a movie, that would seem creepy. So I think they made a good choice. Anyway. It's not like he's running around with a constant girn on his face. He's suitably subdued and I think Daniel Sunjata did a very good Job of portraying Ranger. Lula and Connie are great, Vinnie is excellent, the only let-down was Grandma Mazur. I had imagined her to be tiny and wiry and she wasn't. She sat wrong with me, but maybe that's just my impression. And even that didn't matter too much to me.Bottom line, I don't understand why this movie gets so much stick. It's fine. I was going to rate it seven, but am going to rate it eight because the 5-something rating seems ridiculously low to me. Make up your own mind. But take it from a fan of the books: It is NOT impossible to like this movie.

wdllofzepia I just watched it on TV. I expected it to be a rom-com with some good jokes. I did no get that. It's actually more like a very light film noir, without most of atmosphere or the interesting story. I don't remember if there was a joke I enjoyed enough to laugh. The action sequences were few, but not bad. The music was solid. The acting was OK. The real problem with it was, for me, the story. I am not even sure wtf was the story. It was uninteresting. On the plus side, Katherine Heigl was very pleasant to the eyes.So, why do I give it a 7? Because somehow it managed to make me stay and watch it till the end, without getting bored. Which is remarkable since I found the story so boring.It's not a bad movie. It's average, but still very watchable and strangely...fun?

kbarnette1981 I can only say that this movie is a travesty. I had high hopes for this movie as I have been a Stephanie Plum fan for years. The acting in this movie is sub par and the actors chosen do not fit the parts. Katherine Heigl as Stephanie Plum is ridiculous and she makes a mockery of the character. Jason Mara as Joe Morelli is equally terrible. Ranger makes a brief appearance in the film and the actor cast does not do the character justice either. Where the books are laugh out loud funny the movie is just plain painful. This movie makes sure that it is the last we will see of Stephanie Plum on screen. I do not recommend wasting your time with this movie unless you have ample time to kill and would like to watch something that will likely make your eyes and ears bleed. I would really like to have something good to say about this movie but there really is nothing I can say. If I were Janet Evanovich I would be furious that Hollywood turned a memorable character into such a forgettable movie. Again, I would watch anything else before I would watch this movie. I made the mistake of seeing it in the theater and wasting my hard earned money on it.

Zeke I have read several of Evanovich's books featuring Stephanie Plum. I mostly enjoy the series and I think "One for the money" is one of the best (after all this is the book that launched the series).The screenplay was somewhat modified from the original, apparently to adapt for movie. I have no problem with modifications as movies are a different medium.However the movie is very poorly executed and directed. It features poor casting, acting, lighting, cinematography, and musical score. Even the locations could have been better.Let us start with the casting. The main character in the book is attractive, but is no princess. The main characters all hail from lower middle class and have a certain street smart and resilience to help them survive. The characters in the movie, specially the lead actor, are uninteresting and unreal. Because of this the tensions between characters never materialize in the way that made the book a success.One for the Money, the book, is a good mystery. Unfortunately, the director director never took the pains to build scenes which are suspenseful and keep viewers on edge. The lighting is flat throughout, even in the dim parking lots. Musical scores sounds like it came from a romance drama. Some of the scenes which could have been very suspenseful or scary, roll through as if nothing out of ordinary is happening.Actors faces and body language remain mostly plain and emotionless, and their voices do not reflect the demands of the scene.All in all, a very poorly produced movie and a big disappointment.
