Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation Audience Reviews

Linkshoch Wonderful Movie
Derrick Gibbons An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Paynbob It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
UofSciFi For those who don't know......(and that seems to be all of you)The script for Starship Troopers 2 was dreamed up during the filming of the first one, but it was never intended to be the sequel. The filming the first film had gone over budget by several millions of dollars and someone came up with the idea that they could film a scaled down second movie(no gore,no sex) with a 2nd set of actors, using the existing already built sets while those sets were still standing and show it on T.V. as a made for T.V. movie called "Starship Troopers: The Lost Platoon" ......and then debut the Made for T.V. movie on television two weeks before their release of Starship Troopers in theaters. Somehow the made for T.V. movie was going to be a advertisement/marketing tool for over-the-budget studio nightmare "Stardship Troopers" which cost over $126 MILLION to make .....and because the costumes and sets already existed, the T.V. movie was going to cost pennies on the dollar to make..............COLUMBIA/TRI-STAR Pictures was never able to secure a prime-time air date with any of the major networks and henceforth the T.V. movie idea never happened! ! ! ! Exit 1997, Enter 2004In 2003 Phil Tipett brought the "Starship Trooper:The Lost Platoon" idea back to COLUMBIA/TRI-STAR attention and they green lighted it, but only if it could be done for around $5million (only 5% of what the first film cost to make).. because the sets of the original film were tore down years ago... they had to create a whole new set, all done in a studio(Low budget style) and the script had to be re- written. The body snatchers storyline was never part of the original script- that storyline was added later because their budget constraints prevented then from filming an hour(or more)of bug battles/action scenes. after the script was re-plotted and re-written, the title was changed to "Starship Troopers 2:Hero of the Federation" and the whole movie was filmed in only 26 days using just 2 sound stages...... ....And now you know the truth about this film.
SnoopyStyle The suits have basically taken the action adventure franchise and made a small horror movie out of it. The movie is inferior in every way. The CG is actually inferior after 7 years. The real effects are also inferior due to the smaller budget. The cast is also smaller. The first one had a budget around $100M but this one is listed at $7M. That accounts for most of the difference. The odd thing is that they got Brenda Strong to come back. Of course she died in the first one, but in this one, she's the Sergent leading the group. The cast is limited to around 15. Most of them are B-list or lower actors. This feels like a straight-to-video, oh wait it is.It's a big disappointment that they didn't attempt a big production big scale action sequel to the original. It's rare for Hollywood to not do sequels. Who knows what happened. The other big problem is that the lighting is all very dark. It was probably easier to cover up all the deficiencies. As a horror movie, it helped to have the darkness. But when the action gets going, the darkness obscures too much.As for the story, after an action start, it really grinds to a halt. The actors grumble their lines. They transition to a more horror oriented story. It takes a long while to make that transition. Once it transitioned, it became too chaotic to get a handle on who's who in the movie.
herurubin people always complain about sequels, one of the main complaints is sequels tend to be a rehashing of the same material or the same story except bigger and worse... like MIB2 Starship Troopers 2 feels like it is part of the same universe as part 1... but in a small, cramped, disgusting corner of that universe I think if this film was marketed differently if would have been better received.. it should have been titled "Starship Troopers: The Hero of the Republic" as it doesn't advance the story presented in the first outing.Starship Troopers 3 Marauder plays more like a true sequel Forget about the world that exists outside this film, and enjoy it on it's own merits... pretend it's called "Space Soldiers" and you'll discover it's a fantastic, tense, scary with amazing creature designs that will give you the creeps...
hoangbk2008 The 2nd movie is a big let down Despite the fact that they have 8 years of advance tech (1997~2004), this movie look dirt cheap And what it lack the most is the Heroic felling from the 1st movie and the professional of the army Compare to 1st movie, the 2nd look like totally amateur playing with plastic gun, most of the cast are cheap 3rd rate actor And the director is trying his best to make it look like a Halloween movie but this fail too Totally lack original
